Fandom: Bones (TV)
Characters/Pairings: Temperance Brennan, Angela Montenegro
Rating: General Audiences
Length: 1746 words
Author Links: gabolange
Theme: Characters of Color

Summary: "A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are." A few snippets of Brennan and Angela.

Reccer's Notes: Angela is Brennan's best friend and, through thick or thin, Angela is there for Brennan. Even though this was written in 2010, it still showcases that element of strong friendship between Angela and Brennan.

Characters/Pairings:  Er.  Who isn't in it?  It does focus on Jim and Blair from Sentinel.
Rating:  Teen/Mature
Length: 295,062 words for the main stories, plus the detours (don't know how long those are)

Theme: novel length, crossover, complete AU

Summary: If Blair's washing out of the guide program, who's taking care of Jim?

Reccer's Notes:  There are two tropes that you see in Sentinel fic all the time.  (Well, more--it's a kind of cliche fandom--but these are two of the biggies.)  AUs where Sentinels are known to the public, and crossovers wherein characters from other fandoms are Sentinels and Guides, too.  If you are looking for rec lists for either type of fic, the Imperfections series will be the first one anybody points out to you.  (This despite the fact that the stories are scattered all over the place.)  These stories are awesome, go read.  Lots of long, plotty goodness; lots of angst; lots of warm fuzzies.  I regularly re-read the entire series.  Yes, those are a lot of fandoms, but it actually isn't that overwhelming when you divide them up across 300k words.

Also, most of these stories are up multiple other places, if these links ever go down, google them!

Theme: novel length stories, crossovers, superpowers

Summary: If Blair's washing out of the guide program, who's taking care of Jim?

Reccer's Notes: The Sentinel wasn't that great a show, but it had a really cool premise that fanfic writers have been using to great ever since. The fandom has always had a lot of AUs where Sentinels are a common/accepted part of life, and a lot of crossovers/fusions where characters from other shows/books are Sentinels or Guides. This is, bar none, the best such story I've ever read. I love the details of a world where Sentinels are normal. Unlike a lot of Sentinel-AUs, this world feels like it could be the real world. The story is gripping, the characters are well-written. Don't let the massive number of fandoms freak you out: over almost 300k words, it's actually not that bad. Dasha knows every world and every character, and melds them seamlessly into the world she has created. I re-read this series frequently.

Oh, and if you read the main stories collected here and still want more, there are other stories (she calls them "Detours") which you can find by searching through her LJ and going through the sites above. (I think that's all her main archives and all the places she has Imperfections stuff, but I wouldn't swear to it. Seriously, her fics are scattered all over the place and it is very frustrating because I love her stuff, but it's very hard to keep track of. I wish she'd put it all up at AO3!)

Length: 10755 words

Theme:  Female characters, science fiction

Summary:  When Brennan is called in to examine a trio of bodies, she discovers a mystery that stymies even her. Who are these three people and what interest does Colonel Sam Carter have in them?

Reccer's Notes:   The problem with being a scientist fiercely dependent on logic and facts is that you don't always know the facts that you need to.  Here's a lovely look at Brennan, trying to figure out why three bodies in a recently uncovered ancient Egyptian temple seem to have had modern medical care.  Alas for her, the SGC (in the form of Sam Carter) is out to see that she doesn't.  Both women are very much in character, and are playing to their strengths.  [personal profile] tielan always writes superb female characters, and this story is no exception.

Summary: Fraser teaches Brennan a new trick for fighting crime. RayV and Booth are long-suffering. There is vastly illogical police procedure included.

Reccer's Notes:  It's great to see the two slightly whimsy crime shows combine and the characters are perfect.
