Theme: Crossovers/Fusions

Summary: The advertisement is a spiky red impact bubble on the back of his box of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs. Mail in just five box tops for your very own HOW TO BE A WIZARD KIT* .

Reccer's Notes: This fusion was a delight to read. The little details make so much sense for Calvin becoming a wizard and going through his Ordeal.

Summary: Three cats, three humans, a dog and a tarantula walk through a Gate

Reccer's Notes: You do not need to know the fandoms to enjoy this fic. Of the fandoms, Young Wizards is the most important, but a very general idea of it (wizards are called to serve the forces of good, and stand up against the evil of the Lone Power; sometimes wizards are cats or other animals) will be enough. This fic is what happens when a very talented writer takes all of the fandoms in their recip's [community profile] yuletide signup and puts them all in the same fic. It is excellent. I only know Young Wizards and RoL, but the author really captured both of them and made them work together in ways I didn't think they could (since they both have very different systems of magic).

Fandom: Young Wizards - Diane Duane
Characters/Pairings: Carmela Rodriguez, Original Character
Rating: G
Length: 1,433

Theme: female friendship

Summary: Carmela is recruiting wizards to help Kit and Nita.

Reccer's Notes: Look, I'm biased in favor of this story duo for two reasons. One is that it has teenagers at war without either sugar-coating it too much or going for the whump for no reason but the whump. The other is that the OC is a non-stereotypical Israeli, and aren't those a rarity. This fic duo posits an interesting array of identities, too: both girls are from Wizard culture, both girls are from a Hispanic background, if you get right down to it; one is USian and Christian, the other is Israeli and Jewish. Not all of it gets explicitly called out, but it's all there.

Summary: His grandfather is laughing, sitting on Carl's new dorm room bed, while Carl tries to hide his Manual among the fantasy books on the shelf above his desk. When Carl asks, "What's so funny?" his grandfather just laughs harder.

Reccer's Notes: Back-story of how the Senior Wizards for New York met. Includes the Funniest Line In Any Fanfic Ever -- you'll know it when you get there. I still cannot read this fic without having at least 2 minutes of helpless giggles.

Fandom: Callahan's Bar (Spider Robinson) x Young Wizards
Characters/Pairings: Nita Callahan, the Lone Power, Jake Stonebender, Long-Drink McGonnigle, Doc Webster, Tom Hauptmann, Fast Eddie Costigan
Rating: Gen
Length: 3770

Theme: Small Fandoms

Summary: Considering the precedent set by our predecessor, Callahan’s Place, we should’ve known it would only be a matter of time before something strange and wonderful walked in.
Mary's Place plays host to a couple new patrons. Contains a touch of underage drinking; existentialism; and of course, some truly horrible puns.

Reccer's Notes: This is an absolutely brilliant crossover based on a couple of interesting coincidences between the two sources. They fit together amazingly well.
