Summary: Summer, 1998. Neal Caffrey robs the gallery where Elizabeth O'Dell is working late, and comes away with a lot more than art. Agent Burke has no idea what's about to hit him.

Reccer's Notes: A truly foundational work in the White Collar fandom! I love how this story works from both ends -- while Peter is trying to solve the crime, Neal and El are trying to steal him away, and I was rooting so much for them to succeed! I also adore how the fork in the road premise allows us to explore how much Neal and El have in common, even without Peter in the middle. It's such a fun story!

Reccer's Notes: An excellent yarn, as you'd expect when a very good writer crosses Leverage and White Collar. The Leverage crew kidnap Neal to help with one of their capers, and of course, Peter and Elizabeth have to get him back. El is especially magnificent, and the snark is great. Very much recommended!

Summary: A routine investigation into an art theft turns up Neal's fingerprints on a stolen painting. Neal swears he's never stolen a Nullier painting, but that's only half the truth...

Reccer's Notes: This delightful casefic feels like a natural extrapolation from White Collar season one, with the affection between Peter and Neal (and El and Neal, and El and Peter) giving everything a warm glow. I love the case, too! It's hard to get the balance right between plot and feels, but I think this fic hits the sweet spot. The epistolary tag is just for the epilogue, but I do love a good fake Wikipedia entry.

Theme: (five) things, bdsm, friends to lovers,

Summary: 5 fantasies about Peter that Neal felt guilty about, and 1 fantasy about Neal that Peter feels guilty about.

Reccer's Notes: I find this fic very fascinating in it's subbtle exploration of the nuances of kink, fantasies and sexual shame; the things the characters may like to think about and how they translate - or not- into reality, the negotiations of consent .  Both Peter and Neal are very well written, with added depth and a very human uncertainty.
The original fic was written a few years back for a kink meme and eventually gained more chapters, growing the relationship and deepening its explorations Sexuality is not straightforward, and this fic handles that beautifully, as well as the way they work through it or around mutually incompatible kinks, without judgement other than the one the characters bring with them.

A fic both lovely and bittersweet I really recommend. Mind the warnings though, some of the fantasies discused may not be to your tastes.

Summary: "You, upstairs," El said to Neal. He beamed, twirled on one foot, and trotted out. "And you need to stop making it so fun to mess with you," she added to Peter.

She surprised a look of such melting fondness on his face as he looked after Neal that her breath caught. "No," he said quietly. "I really don't."

Reccer's Notes: This fic is such an absolute delight... The characterisation, plot and character developpement are pitch perfect, and I love the depiction of how the relationship between the three of them could come to be, the dynamics of how it would work, the playfullness of Neal and Peter half-courting/half-outmatching each other dance, El's involvement... And the sex is perfectly written as well, this is a pleasure to (re)read.

Favorite Fanworks: Young Sam This piece was made for 2010 SPN Reverse Bang and really captures a supernatural mood.

Stem the tide, Point the blame Made for the X-Men Big Bang, this is multiple pieces, some atmospheric pieces. These were made with a graphics tablet.

And the Void Would Be Calling This piece was made for the Cap_ironman reverse bang 2012. Be warned this art contains a significant character's death. A moving piece.

But The Heart Made for the 2012 Avengers big bang. A great piece, filled with character and works well alongside the story it was made to accompany.

Reccer's Notes:  Chances are good you've all heard of Sam already.  He's one of the few authors who has truly widespread name recognition across dozens of fandoms and he managed it despite repeatedly changing his penname.  He's perhaps best know for his epic Stealing Harry 'verse, a fic which itself has fics written for it but he has a long list of Notable Works.

Favorite Fanworks:  Because he is so well known, I'd like to stay away from the Fanlore list and rec some of his others that I enjoyed.

It's Not the Violin (R) Sherlock BBC.  Summary: Somewhere between Alejandro and the fistfight, John Watson became someone Sherlock Holmes would kill for. --- Great characterizations and the platonic but deep relationship between Sherlock and John here is really lovely.

Jeffery Nullier's Man with Fedora (PG-15) White Collar.  Summary: A routine investigation into an art theft turns up Neal's fingerprints on a stolen painting. Neal swears he's never stolen a Nullier painting, but that's only half the truth... --- I love art.  I can't create any to save my life, but I love it and this is a great fic for artists and art lovers.

The Piecemaker (PG-15) Discworld.  Summary: Detritus has invented a new and intriguing way of totally destroying his enemies. --- The character voices in this one are great and that's not at all easy to do in Discworld fandom.

Half a Dozen Laconic Bastards (PG-15) SGA, White Collar, Torchwood, Eureka, mentions of Sherlock BBC.  Summary: John Sheppard didn't know he was part of an ATA-gene cloning project until it was much, much too late. Neal and Zane have a serious case of sibling rivalry, Ianto and Tim don't like the uniforms, and Gwen isn't sure she wants to be leader after all. --- This fic is unrepentant crack but hilarious if you know enough of the characters involved.

Reccer's Notes: Neil (the world's greatest con man) and Sherlock (the world's greatest detective) face off (twice) for fun and profit.  It really puts Neil and Sherlock in their elements, showing what they're really made of.  It's fun to read, in part because it seems like something that would really excite the characters themselves.

Summary: In another universe, Peter Burke went corporate. He wouldn't have met Neal Caffrey -- except Neal tried to rob his company. And Peter, naturally, caught him.

Reccer's Notes: Taking a cue from the episode Company Man, [personal profile] sam_storyteller plays out the less-traveled path things might have taken if Peter had chosen a future in corporate accounting over the FBI. This Peter is very definitely the Peter Burke we all know and love, but his point of view is very different, which makes for an interesting spin on his dynamic with Neal.

This story really does read like a branched-off timeline of the canon White Collar universe with every character completely themselves, living a slightly different life, reacting and behaving exactly the way you think they would - it's note perfect and an involving, fun read.

Reccer's Notes: Neal Caffrey. He's a man who would appreciate the classics, be they men's business suits or lox and cream cheese on a bagel. So, it's not a surprise to find him in a New York City diner, when he overhears a man with an accent from the North of England boast to his two companions--a blonde woman and a good-looking American--that, in the future, this cafe will be legendary for its bagels. This eavesdropping leads to a surprisingly legitimate business endeavor for Neal. Peter would be proud. Maybe. Or arrest him for insider knowledge.

Summary: "All right," Nate says, and smacks his hands together. "Let's go steal a con artist."

Reccer's Notes: The voices and characterizations and style are all pitch perfect - this could be an actual episode of Leverage. And Alec's POV is both natural and hilarious.

"Seriously, you two know each other?" Alec demands, laser-pointering between her and Caffrey. He thinks he's hitting appropriate levels of incredulity here, which takes some effort. Being way screwed on the Parker front means all his reactions to her have the amplitude turned up to eleven -- either he wants to duct tape her into a crate so she'll stay out of trouble for a hot minute, or he wants to post adorable Parker videos up all over YouTube just to watch her view numbers eclipse Maru's.

Caffrey is grinning like this is the funniest thing that has happened to him all week. "We know each other's alleged work."

Parker snorts. "We've stolen each other's alleged work." She pauses. "Plus there was that one time we had sex in an air duct," she adds, circling a hand absentmindedly.

This story is a wonderfully believable fusion of the two canons (White Collar has since Jossed Neal's history, alas). I loved Neal's contribution to Arthur and Eames' lives, and to Inception in general. A wonderful read.
