Fandom: The Thing (1982) (derived from Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell, Jr.)
Pairing: Gen
Length: ~6,600
Author Links: Peter Watts' blog and backlist
Theme: Science Fiction
Summary: After awakening from its crash into the Antarctic, an explorer finds that its overtures to the local bipedal offshoots only results in it being attacked.

Reccer's Notes: This story is a re-telling of The Thing (1982) from the alien's perspective. Watts does a spectacular job conveying a very alien intelligence as well as a world-view that is deeply unsettling to us readers. I strongly recommend the podcast, which is read by Kate Baker, who imbues the work with an extra layer of emotion and depth.
