Summary: "There are 350 varieties of shark, not counting loan and pool." -L. M. Boyd

"There's a pool table," Rachel says, looking over her shoulder. "How do you think I paid my bar tab as an undergrad? And as a grad student. And, come to think of it, as an activist."

Reccer's Notes: It's been quite some time since I regularly read RPF, and even longer since US pundit fandom was at the height of its activity, but this piece always makes me smile. The overarching concept of the five biggest names in progressive cable news (real or fake) getting together for drinks is still believable, as is the specific plot of this story. All of the characters ring true to their public personae. In all, a welcome look back in fannish time.

Summary: “I sent you a Christmas card that got sent back to me. Did you get a new apartment?” his dad wonders. The question is all suspicion and little anything else.

A flicker of an idea sparks. It’s not nearly formed well enough for him to say, “Yeah, actually,” and when he follows that with, “I moved in with someone,” he wants to punch himself in the face. He’s living with someone?!

“You’re living with someone?” It’s the same voice and tone as the one in Stiles’ head, just thirty years older.

Two things keep Stiles from bashing his face onto the table: there’s a steaming cup of coffee in the way and, more importantly, his dad will definitely hear. Someone passes by in front of him and a semi-familiar book cover catches his eye. “Derek Hale,” he muses, and stops. No. That wasn’t meant to be out loud.

Reccer's Notes: This is a fantastic comfortfic that I read at least once a year (usually in December since it does have a Christmas theme). It's a human AU that I, a vocal non-AU reader, love to bits. It's to a certain point a bit predictable but that's part of the appeal. It's warm, it has all the tropes you'd expect, and at this point it's like a pair of well-worn shoes that's just become comfortable.
