Summary: If Blair's washing out of the guide program, who's taking care of Jim?

Reccer's Notes: Of all the Sentinel and Guide series I've read, this is my very favorite for the depth of the relationship that slowly builds between Blair and Jim, and for the detailed and intricate world-building. This is closer to your canon Sentinel (no mental shields or bonding) but extrapolates from there in the most fantastic ways, especially as pertains to the science behind Sentinel biology, requiring Guides to get doctorates in the field and still having to pass special criteria. Sentinels are victims of their own hyperreactive senses, and Dasha takes this to the ultimate conclusion, medically-speaking. The resulting stories have tons of H/C but also lessons in communication and how to ask for help, something Jim has never been good at doing; and along the way, Blair learns he has his own skills and versatile methods that might not be sanctioned by the Institute, but work pretty damned well: he is a Guide at heart.

Summary: No species is all good or all evil. The tok'ra like to believe they are the "good" side of the onac race--the symbiotes who developed into the goa'uld. However, the tok'ra never mention Shamash or Samas, the ancient Sumerian god who was really one of the early queens. She (or really Samas prefers to be called a he) remembers the onac before the corruption of Ra, and he tried to lead his people back to a life in the water. He failed. However, thousands of years later, one gunnery sergeant on a suicide mission stumbled into a South American river, and Samas found he had another chance. The SGC and later Atlantis gave Samas a chance to save his people and make a few changes for the better in this universe. Samas once allowed Ra to take everything away from him. This time Samas is going to make sure his people are strong enough to stand up to any enemy. And to serve that end, he's going to make sure that those that he trusts--Tony, John, Rodney, Teyla, Ronon, Elizabeth, Major Teldy, Radek, Miko, Kyli and others--have the power to combat anyone who tries to take Atlantis from them.

Reccer's Notes: I hesitated to read this for the longest time -- then wondered why I'd waited so long. Just as humans have different personalities, LitGal posits that so too do gou'ald -- and Samas (within Gibbs) is an interesting and well-developed character, a partner to Gibbs rather than taking over. Once Tony understands what's going on, Gibbs-Samas-Tony work just as seamlessly together as Gibbs-Tony always have. These stories are rich and complex, emotionally satisfying, and each one leaves us wanting more. Fortunately, there are several stories in the series. Tony and Gibbs and Samas make a big difference for the better when they eventually join the Atlantis expedition (in the second story), and find a place where they can truly fit in.

Content Notes: Light Dom/sub, alien thought-patterns. Samas's cold, clinical calculations may be a dash of cold water to some.

Summary: This is an alternate universe series in that Rodney McKay never went to Atlantis, the mission failed within its first two years and John Sheppard finds himself back on Earth as the second in command of Stargate Command under the leadership of Major General Jack O’Neill.

Reccer's Notes: Complete AU, and completely engrossing. When John returns from Atlantis, he and Rodney start a relationship. But there are dangerous currents swirling around them. As danger threatens, their circle of friends and family continues to grow bigger, closer, and stronger.

This series is epic in scope, but what I really appreciate is how everyone works together, standing united against the people that would harm them, and making more and more personal connections. (So many personal connections! <g>) John's family (an extra brother not in canon) and Rodney's family (Jeannie and Maddie) get absorbed into the SGC and, despite the dangers that threaten and obstacles that interfere, everyone is basically one big, happy family. Not nearly as sappy as that sounds, this is a series that I've reread multiple times because it is so totally, charmingly heart-filling.

Content Notes: Canon-typical danger and injuries.
